![]() ![]() Ive played with mine a bit, it's a very cool concept, but may be a weak point on the reel, structurally. Instead it becomes free to slide back and forth at will during the cast, getting re-engaged when you start reeling. Nor is it like my modern abu blackmax where the line guide stays static on a cast, losing momentum to the friction of line sliding across the sides of the aperture. So it's not like my 5000C where the line guide remains engaged on the cast forcing the spool to lose momentum to move the gears that drive the line guide. It appears the line guide disengages from the mechanism that moves it when you're in free spool. How does it work? There seems to be some unusual parts. Any help would be appreciated.Quote from: oc1 on May 25, 2022, 05:04:38 AM Quote from: Gfish on May 25, 2022, 03:33:27 AMThat levelwind design and function has always been my favorite thing on any reel I've ever owned. Need an education fast as I am older than dirt and a lot closer to the other side of the grass than I would like to be. Was this reel rated for a specific type use-see the ads for so many what I call bait cast reels. Garcia wrote and suggested loading this with 12# test line-would like a suggestion for a matching rod under $100. ![]() Is this reel an ok one for flipping a rubber worm for bass. Not familiar with braid, flouracarbon(sic) or the new lines-all I ever knew was mono and rubber worms for bass and live shrimp and finger mullet for trout and flounder using my spinning rod. Would like some good advise as I honestly do not know where to begin. Now retiring on a 2400 acre lake in Northern Wisconsin with largemouth in fair numbers and real close to a very good river w/ big smallmouth. For the next 15 yrs I worked OT out the wazoo and lost track of all the changes in fishing gear. Just felt it was a deal at that price but did not know what I was going to use it for. Never used it as I was transferred shortly after from Fla to Wisc. In the mid 80's I was in a K-Mart and they had marked down a new Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Ultra Mag 11 for $14 bucks. ![]()
